UTAIM is short for UTA in motion, which is a automated traffic signal performance monitoring system with more unique functions developed by UT Arlington. It aims to provide a full-spectrum arterial traffic performance monitoring in a real-time fashion. Compared with other research similar efforts, the UTA-ATSPM system take full advantages of traffic big data and mobile computings. While the core data source is the high-resolution traffic signal logs. The UTA-ATSPM embraces many other internet-based traffic data, including but not limited to, real-time weather and air-quality, real-time travel time and speed, internet-connected vehicle data (3%~10% of all running vehicles) as well as cuertomers' probe vehicles (via a customized smartphone app). UTA-ATSPM is an effective tool to design, optimize and evaluate arterial traffic management.
The best is just yet to come! The ACTION LAB at UTA is currently migrating the UTA-ATSPM into a resolutionary system for innovative traffic operations, such as freight signal priority, incentive-based partnership between trucking industry and public agencies and pedestrian-responsive traffic signal control system, etc.
